Life in the Big City

My friend living just outside NY proper called me last night, his apartment had been robbed. When he got home, the front door was wide open and so was a little window (he lives on the 1st floor).

Something like that is SUCH a violation. Even though he wasn't hurt, the fact that it happened, and happened to HIM hurts deeply on the inside.

The thief (thieves) was/were probably in and out of there in under 5 minutes. Items taken: I-pod, digital camera, 2 laptop computers. No wallet, no financial info, no passport (all those items were in the apartment). Whoever stole those things was looking for something to sell quickly and for a lot of cash.

I know that in comparison to hurricanes and wild fires this could have been worse. No one was physically hurt. But for a musician to lose all of his music (because the backup to the computer was the i-pod), and all the photos (from having a puppy to college graduation) lost forever.... it feels like someone has taken a piece of you, of your past. Someone who had NO RIGHT, TOOK a part of my friend.

I'm so sorry baby.

Random Acts

I came home last night (from $3/gallon at the pump which made me crabby) to a HUGE leaf pile at the curb of my house. The thing is, I don't even own a rake.

Upon closer inspection, my driveway (which was all but disappearing under all the leaves and brush) had been raked/swept CLEAN!

When I went to work it was a disaster, and now it's perfect. I think my next door neighbors did it, bless their hearts. It's amazing what a little act of kindness can do. It made my night.

I feel the need to thank someone, but I honestly don't know whom.

Memo to all the males out there...

Don't, just don't, I repeat DO NOT ask me out and then not follow through. It wastes BOTH of our time. A simple voicemail or an e-mail is all I ask.

And that's not asking too much.

The Crazy Gene

It turns out there's a crazy Gene in my family.

How is my first post about the crazy gene? Shhhh! Maybe I have it too....

My grandma and her sister live about 90 minutes apart. Her sister calls her the other day and asks if my grandma is going to the SISTER'S reunion. Um.... grandma states "No, I wasn't invited to it. Are YOU going?" And sister, who worked in retail at the mall for YEARS replies, "No, I don't have anything to wear. I threw away the invitation."

If you the reader can figure out the actual purpose of that phone call, please let me know.
