Health Care Crisis, NEED for Nationalized Health Care NOW!

I've said it before, and I'll say it until we have a system that protects the lives of the people of our country, we have a SERIOUS problem with the health care system and NEED nationalized health care!

Here's a headline that was in my (work) e-mail this morning:

New National Survey of Mayors Highlights Impact of Growing Health Care Crisis on City Budgets and Services

It's not getting better on its own, it's getting worse. The rich get richer, and the poor get sick and die. Sounds like we need to start fighting for change....

New Pooch?

I REALLY hope that my parents end up adopting this little muffin! She's like Aldo's little sister! Her current name is Megan, but my mom has already suggested changing it to Maggie. Once you name something, it's yours!!!!
We need another blond bouvier in our extended family!

Seersucker

I have a new seersucker Issac Mizrahi suit from Target. I laid it out last night in preparation to wear it to work today.

As I was getting dressed this morning, and watching my local news, I realized not only did the weather lady have it on, but she said, "I feel a little like Al Roker in my seersucker suit!" No she di'int!

I personally feel a little like P. Diddy preparing to attend the white party. =)

So far no one has asked me if I'm interviewing either (the standard question one hears when wearing a suit).
I have the dress too, of course.

Molded As I Was Meant To Be

I've been neglecting this space due to my 200 friends and lil' green patch on Facebook! Sorry....

I got two e-mails this week from guys I knew in middle school. Apparently, the current, modern, 33-year old version of me was determined, written, sculpted, formulated, molded, back about 20 years ago.

When I was in 8th grade I started to become conscious of the outside world. Outside my city, state, country. I also cared about that world. Here I am 20 years later, working for an agency that provides social services to the most needy groups in my state. I donate money, and volunteer my time. I've become more green at my house than almost anyone I know.

Read this message from an old friend/acquaintance of mine:

"I checked out your profile and I could have predicted in 8th grade everything that was on your page! You are a total treehugger, liberal, feminist, potential democratic candidate! I knew it!"

So true.... I was MEANT to be what I have become. =)

And from my 8th grade boyfriend (who is now married):

"
I was telling someone the other day how I was quite a shithead to girls when I was young. I apologize about that. Youth is not an excuse, but its the reason. Best wishes."

So apparently I now have the apology that I should have had 20 years ago. Perhaps this is a new beginning for me. It's time to move forward!

Blink!

If you haven't read "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell yet, hurry up and get your hands on it!

I have book club this evening, and for the first time in a while I read the book! "Blink" is sooooo good! It talks about first impressions, or gut reactions to things. There's a lot about these first reactions based on race, or sex, or education or income level.
There is a section or two about police officers and police protocol for different situations (traffic stops, anything involving a suspect with a gun) and it's all so interesting.
There's also a section for me about orchestra auditions. They do most of them "blind" these days (with the person auditioning behind a screen so the judges don't know who it is). I guess women were really being discriminated against and not hired even when they were the best candidate simply because they were women.
You should read the book, it's WAY better than I'm describing it. And Malcolm is a cool guy too. =)
