Happy Halloween!

Thanks to my pal MK for the awesome and festive card. I especially love the costumes the dogs are wearing (and that the treat bowl is all biscuits). As always, click on the pic for a better view.

I have a party to go to later Tuesday night, but not until I go get a cute haircut first. We all need our priorities! There's a cute band-teacher guy rumored to be at the party, keep your fingers crossed!

Oh yeah, it's my last week (3 more days!) at my old job. I have SO much to do!!!! Wed and Thurs may be some late nights for me...

Dog Savior

I was on my way to babysit for my favorite niece Esse today, when I spotted a white pit bull/beagle mix looking dog sniffing a tree in front of a nearby middle school. There wasn't a person with the dog, but the dog had tags on.

I turned my car around and drove back by the dog. We were on a pretty busy street (most traffic is going about 40 mph and it's 4 lanes wide) so I was really worried about the dog getting hit. I threw my car into park (but left it running) and grabbed my cell phone (to call the # on the tags) and some treats that I keep in the car.

I hopped out of the car and ran as close as I could to the dog and squatted down (to make myself little) and said, "Hi doggie, come. Want a treat?"

The dog wagged its tail at me and circled me before coming close enough that I could grab the collar.

As soon as I had the dog I called its owner. The dog's name was Geordie. The phone call went like this:

Some guy: hello?

Me: I have your dog Geordie!

Some guy: What?

Me: Do you have a dog named Geordie?

Some guy: Yeah.

Me: Well I found her running outside, we're by the school.

Some guy: I don't know how that happened, she's supposed to be in the house.

Me: Is the address on this tag your current address?

Some guy: Yeah.

Me: I'll bring her home.

So I dragged her to my car (she wasn't so sure about that....) and then said the best words to say to a dog, "Wanna go for a ride?" She leapt into my van.

I drove her home and put a leash on her (thanks to my guys, I have several in the car) and walked her to the front door.

A woman answered and Geordie just ran right in! The lady said she didn't know how the dog got out and thanked me.

I told her that I've had a dog run off and would die if something happened to one of mine, so I was happy to return her.

It doesn't seem right, they didn't even know the dog was out, and based on the street she had already crossed, it was only a matter of time until she got hit by a car. They didn't seem grateful enough.

Geordie is a sweet dog, and I know that I saved her life today. I guess I was in the right place at the right time (and I was a dog person at the right time too).

I GOT A NEW JOB!!!!!

I was offered a new job this morning as a Budget and Policy analyst in the Secretary's office of another State Agency. WOO-HOO!!!! This is big stuff, a promotion, and an excellent career move.

It's hard to believe I've been in my current job for 5 years, and I am really, really going to miss my friends. =( So hopefully we'll keep in touch since I'll only be about 6 blocks away.

I'm still in shock! I can't believe that after 4 years of trying to get a new job, I FINALLY have the title I've been looking for. It's like at the end of Princess Bride when the Spanish guy says, "I've been in the revenge business for so long, now that it's over I don't know what to do with myself!" And Wesley says, "Have you ever considered piracy? You'd make an excellent Dread Pirate Roberts!"

Meat, yum

This makes me want to go to Whole Foods and buy some non-hormone ridden, grass and grain fed MEAT.

Old school ads are pretty sweet. I also have a soft spot in my heart for pin-up girls (not really sure why I'm sharing that). I think Spike got me interested in those.

Adios Texas

My flights home yesterday were rough. I had two legs to the trip. To top it off, they offered me a free flight to bump my 2nd flight from last night to this morning (which was so tempting as a free flight rocks and I was moderately green at the gills from the first flight) but I wouldn't get home until 12:30 PM today and I have an interview at 1:30. Oops. So instead I arrived home on schedule, at 9:00 last night. And miraculously, I never puked (that was also tempting).

Speaking of that, I should get ready for that interview soon. It's my second interview at a different state department to do policy and budget work for the Secretary's office. It would be a promotion, and ultimately a great career move. I need to get my head back in that frame of mind, as it's completely possible that I'm still mentally on vacation.

I miss Texas already, or at least I miss lil-t and baby Wes. It's nutty to think how much he will have changed the next time I see him. Holy man! It makes me want babies too, although lil-t told me to keep that to myself when I'm on dates with boys. Ha, boys.

I have a first date with a new boy tomorrow. He's a professor and involved in some ultra-liberal volunteering and fundraising activities. And he's a dog lover! Please keep fingers crossed for me, OK?

I was surprised to hear how many Texas state employees I met (as I had my tour on the OTHER side of the velvet ropes in the Capitol) weren't Bush fans. They used to call him "Governor Shrub" because he's the LITTLE Bush. Heh. There's hope, even for Texas.

Oh yes, I'm still focusing on selling my budgetary strengths, and all that jazz.... maybe I should go scare up a suit to wear.

Later Y'all!

Hola Texas!

Yes, the lone star state has welcomed me... deep in the heart of Texas!

Here's what I have learned so far:
  • A side order of quesadillas is really more of a meal than a side.
  • Babies crying REALLY CAN turn their mom's shirt all wet!
  • Three adults and one baby can all share a bathroom.
  • Dogs can get strangled on chain link fences (wood is bettah!).
  • Keith on Project Runway thinks he was set up, and yet his defense strongly resembled Representative Foley (R), Florida. Keith's version was, "I didn't know I couldn't have the books. Wait, the production staff TOOK his books away, and then mysteriously they showed up under my bed."
  • Speaking of Foley there is a breed of cockroach that looks (and runs) like a scorpion. Even they cannot escape the wrath of the Dansko sandal! Would that squish Foley too?
  • It's illegal to ship prescription drugs through the mail, my mom can somehow manage to pull it off. THANKS MOM!
  • Good friends REALLY do stand the tests of time. I'm so happy to be here with "lil t" my best friend from kindergarten. And seeing her baby Wes, is really special too. My lil-t is a mommy!!!!

Making Progress

I was sitting on the loveseat in my bedroom and petting the dogs. They were both up there with me and it was SO CUTE!

I slowly got up, backed away, grabbed my camera, and VOILA!

They're making progress toward being great pals.

This morning at my parents' house Kiki went into a play-bow and took off running. Aldo was chasing her and having great fun. Lexa noticed what was happening and joined in. It warmed my heart to see the three of them playing like that. Lexa and Kiki even stood on their hind legs to look like bears playing. God I love that!

I bought them all kinds of tasty treats (in honor of Aldo's birthday). Also, I'm headed to TX for a week, so I have to bribe them so they don't get mad at me.

They both stayed over at mom and dad's last night (because I'm SUCH a party in and of myself that I fell asleep at Michele's while we were watching "Firefly" with Jason and Loki). Apparently my dogs are excellent houseguests, and my parents LOVE having grandchildren, even the furry 4-legged kind. Thanks for all the dog-sitting mom and dad!!!!

Aldo is 7

Happy birthday to my sweet mamma's boy Aldo. I know it's kind of a shitty present to have a new little sister, but I think we're all getting along pretty well.

Adding a new dog has been like adding a baby to my household. I have no time for anything, and just want to spend my time at home with the dogs. Seriously, my housekeeping is slacking.

I feel a little bad about having no time to blog. Sorry folks!

I just realized that it's 3PM, and I've been up since 7:30 AM and I took a 4 mile walk with my dad and the dogs and I mowed the lawn... and I HAVEN'T EATEN YET!!!! What the hell?

I'm off to make some food!
